It’s in your own best interests to take care of your needs first and to let go of living in agency. This will shift you toward physical, emotional, psychological, spiritual, and relational wellbeing. When helping others, if it is being done out of love, and you take care of your own needs first, then you are not living in agency. If you help others and store up resentment, anger, rage, sadness, or guilt in your body, sacrificing your own wellbeing and health to help others, you are living in agency. This includes helping in the family, community, or helping in the workplace.
What Are Your Choices?
When you are drawn to help others, you can either do it with a loving heart, caring for your own needs first, or you can help through a sense of duty, obligation, and resentment from a body-tightening place of fear, connecting to your own deep inner woundedness. This woundedness is your lifelong emotional response pattern from self-abandonment in early childhood. For some reason, the needs of others became more important than your own needs. Fear restricts your life energy and limits your capacity for wellness.
Stop Living in Agency
Getting out of agency entails listening to your inner voice each time to go to do anything. You need to take care of your own needs and desires first before you tend to the needs of others. If you have to make a decision, go inside to see how it sits with you. If you choose to do something that you really don’t want to do, to get out of agency you have to shift your attitude to embrace doing it out of self-love. Perhaps you have been begrudgingly running errands for someone who is aging. Well, it’s time to shift your attitude toward that individual and enjoy the time with the individual rather than resenting having to do the errand. If you work with clients or patients, it’s time to stop living in agency.
Self-Agency
Getting out of living in agency entails self-agency, which involves healthy self-care and self-love. To care for oneself is not a selfish thing to do. It is key to your health and wellbeing. Self-agency allows you to connect with your inner core self, get in touch with your own feelings, and fulfill your own needs, desires, or goals.
Self-agency creates a healthy environment for the cells of your body to grow. It softens inner body tightenings and contractions, and shifts symptoms of un-wellness. Self-agency allows you to understand yourself internally and separate from how you are in relationship to others. Self-agency means letting go of the need for the external approval of others to understand your own wellbeing. Self-agency is separating yourself from the needs of others. When self-agency is strong you know you are in charge of your own life and you stop abandoning yourself.
Avoid These Pitfalls
If you are attempting to step away from living in agency, you could find yourself going to some crazy extremes. You could suddenly refuse to help anyone or you could try to fix the whole world and everyone in it. They call this latter situation being in super agency. It’s important to realize you can’t fix the world because nobody or nothing is broken. Each person is the way they are meant to be and the world is just the way it is meant to be. You can only change the way you show up in the world and that will have a radiating effect out into the world around you.
